Another fantastic and incredibly busy year for us here at Mocha Tree Studios. In 2019, we went to some amazing venues for the first time, including Adelina and Manoir de la Foret in Gatineau and the Grand Hotel in Carleton Place. We’ve taken on another videographer with Ben coming on board making us now five in the Studio, including our editor Brianna! This year, MTS also became a parent company to OhSNAPS Photo Booth - our fun and modern solution to your photo booth needs!
As always, we want to take this opportunity to thank you all for yet another memorable year. We are so, so blessed to have wonderful couples who let us do what we love! We are also so grateful to be surrounded by our supportive and talented industry peers who continue to inspire us to do our best every single day.
Now, on the cool stuff! Below are some notable figures from 2019, for both photography and videography!
67 wedding shoots for both photography and videography combined.
36 engagement sessions.
5 wedding shows attended.
48 SD cards in rotation (this is kind of crazy!).
If you’re feeling like walking down the memory lane, you can revisit our Year in Review for 2018 and Year in Review for 2017!!
Without further ado, here are some of our favourite photographs and videos from 2019. Quick caveat, we are still finishing some weddings from the November and December, so many of them will be included in the next year’s year in review instead. Also note that these are totally subjective. There is no set criteria for these selections, these are just photos and videos we as a studio like for multiple reasons, including quality, composition, the feeling they evoke, the memory of the moment, etc. Also, we couldn’t resist: some categories will have more than one photo!
Engagement
Every year since we started doing Year in Reviews in 2017, all the photos chosen for this category have been shot at Princess Louise Falls. This year is no exception with these photos of Tanya and Max. That location lends so well to our studio style! These two looked so in love in every photo we took of them, not to mention how gorgeous Tanya in that yellow ochre dress. Can’t wait for these two to tie the knot in October 2020!
Wedding Detail
In the past we’ve always chosen detail of the brides’ accessories. This year, we are changing that up a bit by going with one of the grooms’. Tyler’s shoes, bow tie, and watch all match in that colour that just pops! Gents, its your wedding, too, so try to look as dapper as you can!
Wedding Dress
We cannot tell you how much we loved Tamara’s wedding dress and how gorgeous she looked in it. Hands down one of favorites this year. Here she is moments before she put it on!
Getting Ready
Fresh off the press, this photo of Heidi getting ready surrounded by her squad made us smile. The anticipation and excitement of the moment when she finally put on that dress cannot be understated.
Wedding Ceremony
Ceremonies come in all shapes and types. This year, we have chosen this photo of Angelica and Scott getting married at this stunning Greek Orthodox Church (Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church). Just an awesome scene to witness two people getting married under that massive dome and chandelier.
Bridesmaids
Meaghan and her wedding party had the most fun on this day. Each wearing a different but complementary dresses. Each one as gorgeous as the next! Just goddesses!
GroomsmeN
These guys were ready to have their GQ moment. Joey and his groomsmen looked so dapper in those blue tuxes. Add your pre-wedding cigars and that huge bike and you get a photo like this!
Bride’s Portrait
We chose this photo of Ruba for its simplicty and traditional look. The pose, the hair on the her right face, the bouquet, that face looking down, leading us to look at that flowing veil. Exquisite.
Groom’s Portrait
Here, Daniel looks at his and Heidi’s wedding rings during a quiet moment away from the the wedding party, but a some moments before they walk down the aisle!
Couple’s Portrait
We’ve taken a similar photo of this shot before, but those older photos have many very distracting elements and for a few years now we have been trying very hard to recreate it. This year, with Sundus and Mohammad, we were able to capture this perfect shot, with the nicest overcast lighting beaming down on our gorgeous couple like a Renaissance painting.
Wedding Party Portrait
Late October weddings make us nervous because you never know what mother nature will throw us. Sometimes you get rain, sometimes you get snow, other times you barely have leaves on trees. Rachel and Erik had the most perfect fall wedding, brought in part by their amazing venue, Bean Town Ranch. The changing leaves provided the perfect backdrop for this wedding party portrait. Look at these beauties!
Children at Weddings
We LOVE kids at wedding - they can be so unpredictable that they provide the most candid photos. This year, Dale and Adam’s flower girls take home the prize for being the most adorable. That yawn mid photo demonstrates how exhausting walking down the aisle can be!! :P #wecanrelatelittleone
Humour
Dale and Adam’s wedding also brought us one of the funniest photos taken this year!! We can only imagine Dale’s face during this mid-first dance pinch, but Adam’s face is absolutely hilarious and priceless!
Emotion
Moms crying always get us! Here Julianne’s mom wiped the never-ending tears streaming down her face as Julianne and Alexandre praised and thanked her. #thefeels
Grand Entrance
Thanya and Stephen’s grand entrance should be a model for other couples: unapologetic with sheer happiness on their faces. They also looked super good, with Thanya in that traditional Sri Lanka sari and Stephen in that Filipino barong. We literally want to be like Thanya when we walk into every room!!
First Dance
Joey and Janet’s first dance is a pyrotechnic galore, with lighting production by DJ Momentum. What else could you possibly want for your first dance?!
Wedding Cake / Dessert
The moment we laid eyes on this cake, we were in awe. Its just the perfect size, it is simple, but also really exquisite looking. This cake was made by Olivia from Serendipity Cakes. Check her out!!
Wedding Video
Watching Sercan and Christina’s wedding video again makes us smile, laugh, and cry in a span of a few minutes. We had the honour and privilege of capturing one of the cutest couples we've ever known and their wedding at the gorgeous Le Belvedere served as their perfect backdrop. There is a slap at 1 minute and 49 seconds!!
Engagement Video
If there is an engagement session that just encapsulate what summer is or should be, it is Marianna and Adam’s engagement session. These two are so cool and so stylish, making this engagement session video look effortless!
Wedding SNEAKPEEK
Whether it is video or photo, sneak peeks are important to us to bridge the bag between your wedding day and when you get your final product. Cassandra and Devan’s sneak peek brings back all the feels from their special day.
