Three weeks ago, I had the great pleasure of photographing Alex and Brian's wedding in Peterborough, Ontario (see their engagement!). I could not have asked for a more fantastic first, out-of-town wedding to photograph of the year! Peterborough is a lovely city, nestled along Highway 7. The drive from Ottawa was relaxing, with many unique little towns to stop by for photos.
Alex and Brian's wedding ceremony was held at the beautiful The Mount Community Centre. The Mount was the former home of the Sisters of St. Joseph, but has since served as a community centre for the city complete with a commercial kitchen, housing, and chapel. When I arrived Friday evening to scout the place, it was hosting an exhibit of Howard Berry's work! And of course, as you will see, the chapel is just stunning. I honestly could not believe how beautiful it was with its super high ceiling and windows. If I lived in Peterborough, I would honestly get married there.
It is always tear-inducing to see couples get married in front of their close friends and family, but I think it is even more so when you know the couple well. This is the case for Alex and Brian, who I have known for close to half a decade now. Seeing them both attest their love, surrounded by friends and family who are there to support and celebrate their commitment to each other, made it that much more special enjoyable to capture.
And then there was the reception at the Holiday Inn Peterborough-Waterfront. It was epic fun! There was no holding back any of the guests from the dance floor, and no one was camera-shy. There were definitely some broken wineglasses before the night was over,
To Alex and Brian: may you both have a lifetime of happy adventures together. Thank you for letting me be part of your journey!
